I am NOT a born evangelist, and spreading God’s Word was NOT easy for me.

Not only that but I truly started my walk with God in a city where I was a stranger and had very little money.

Strangers In A Strange Land

After marrying Dawn, the love of my life, we decided to start fresh.

It was August of 2006 when we made the long journey from the Philippines to Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

We were strangers in a strange city with no friends, no family, no jobs… And only $532.12 between the two of us.

For the first time in my life I didn’t know how I was going to survive or even if I’d have enough food for my new wife and I to eat the following month.

It was a painful time but…

…it was also the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

Here’s why…

You see, through that experience God broke me and transformed me into a better person. I leaned heavily on my faith to get through that trying time.

Where Do I Go From Here

The constant fear and not knowing what to do next was just too hair-raising.

I was so frustrated that all I wanted to do was pack up and go back to the Philipines.

I truly was in “survival mode”, it’s a natural human behavior to focus on yourself more than anything else… And that’s exactly what I did.

Not having enough money to go back to the Philippines, I contemplated my life and pleaded with God:

“What is my true calling? How can I truly serve You through my gifts?”

It was through this pleading that God led me to put my education, experience, and website building skills to use.

I created a Christian oriented, revenue generating website.

A True Miracle Happened

After three short months online, my new website was listed on the first page of Google and had thousands of visitors flocking to it everyday!

That may not sound like a miracle but it happened without any advertising at all…

God truly blessed my work!

If you ask anyone with a website, they’ll tell you that it’s nearly impossible to be ranked on the 1st page of a Google search within three months and with NO advertising.

The website did very well and helped me to feed us and survive.

God Worked Through Me To Reach Around The World

After doing well with my website for a couple of years, He wanted me to reach out even further to touch the lives of thousands from across the globe.

That is when I combined my business with ministry.

I started to offer free devotionals online to provide words of encouragement as well as challenging and inspiring thoughts for everyday Christian living.

Slowly, subscribers to my website grew and grew… and grew.

Following My True Calling

God truly works miracles and sometimes we don’t even realize it…

I was getting a flood of emails and snail mail from people thanking me for the devotionals.
They all said the devotionals helped them grow in their faith and overcome obstacles.

I became so busy with my business that I had to quit my major responsibilities in our local church. That was something that our church leaders frowned upon.

“You want to stop serving God for business? Really?”

That’s what I kept hearing from our church elders.

Although running a business isn’t prohibited, in church culture it’s rarely encouraged.  The reason is that some Christians believe the ultimate service to God can only be done by being a pastor, preacher, or any other service to the local church.

They see running your own business as taking and not giving.

But that’s not true.

We all have different gifts and different callings. There are many ways that we can serve.

Truth be told, doing what you’re called to do is actually the ultimate service to God… So off I went to follow my true calling.

Reaching The End Of My Rope

You may be shocked to hear this, but …

After branching off from the church and pursuing my business, I crashed!

Let me explain what happened …

I had great business and financial forecasts but then the rug got pulled from under me.

My sales plummeted and bills started stacking up, and I mean stacking up fast!

My $22,000 in savings was gone and I racked up an incredible $36,000 in debt.

Keeping The Faith

“Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.” – Matthew 21:21

With my savings wiped out and $36,000 in debt, I prayed to God…”I’m following your bidding the best I can… What do I do now? ”

It took two years of struggle, stress, and financial difficulties for Him to finally answer my prayer.

Talk about keeping the faith!

How My Prayer Got Answered

When Jesus was overwhelmed with sorrow in the Garden of Gethsemane, what did he do?

He prayed.

He shows us that we should do the same thing.

You see prayer engages your mind with thoughts of God and his security, instead of having negative, worrisome thoughts.

My prayer was answered when my wife Dawn and I attended a phenomenal Christian seminar.

At the end of the seminar we were given a sheet of paper with scriptures to memorize and say before we started our day and before we went to bed.

Frankly, I had my doubts and wasn’t even sure if this would help me. But I posted the sheet in my office anyways.

One day, I’m sitting in my office worrying about what to do next and how to get out of debt when I looked up at the sheet of scriptures.

I thought to myself, “I have nothing to lose by memorizing scriptures.” And so, I started reading the scriptures until I eventually memorized them.

After reciting my memorized scriptures daily for a couple of months, things began to change.

My spiritual life became stronger, my business started picking up, and I was finally able to slowly pay off all my debts.

All of that from simply reciting scriptures twice a day!

Memorizing scriptures can get you through tough times because God speaks directly to you through them.  It can also be your best solution because scriptures will keep your prayers from sinking into panic.

Transforming Lives Across The Globe
